S.M.A.R.T

Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (S.M.A.R.T) was established in 2015 as a non-profit company (NPC) and consists of a group of volunteers, passionate about the safety, survival and care of stranded marine animals.

Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (S.M.A.R.T) is a non-profit company (NPC) consisting of volunteers passionate about Marine or any stranded animals on our coastlines. The group covers an area of Wilderness to Mosselbay and further. S.M.A.R.T is determined to help any animal in distress or danger and is dependent on the public in this way to contact us or report any cases.

S.M.A.R.T operates under the authority of the DEFF (Dept Environmental Affairs, Forestry and Fisheries) and are agents for Dr. Greg Hofmeyr (Bayworld, Port Elizabeth) We collaborate with the NSRI, SPCA, Mossel Bay Municipality, Seaborder Police, Cape Nature, SANParks, SAPREC, Oceans Research, various Conservancies and Neighbourhood Watch groups in the area.

S.M.A.R.T is as ‘n nie-winsgewende maatskappy gestig waarvan Dr. Frans De Graaff, Anton Dellemijn, Ig van der Merwe en Tersia Marais die direkteure is. Hantering van alle mariene strandings naamlik walvisse, dolfyne, robbe en seeskilpaaie geskied as volg:

– Die publiek/DBV/Nooddienste/SAPD, ens. rapporteer strandings op die noodnommer – 072 227 4715.

– Die boodskap word dan op ’n WhatsApp groep geplaas waarna persone wat beskikbaar is, na die stranding gaan.

– Terugvoering oor die aard en intensiteit van die stranding geskied op die WhatsApp groep.

– Diere word (indien moontlik) na dr. Frans geneem vir behandeling en vrylating geskied so gou moontlik.

As a Non Profit Company (NPC), all donations are welcome in order for us to purchase much needed equipment and especially branding material.
